About us

United Nations Association St Andrews (UNAStA) is a student organisation at the University of St Andrews and affiliated with the United Nations Association Scotland. We aim to promote civil society engagement in our community with the work of the UN, helping to strengthen their goals. As a student organisation at the university, we are able to approach large numbers of students and encourage them to participate in activities and discussions with people who are also contributing to the values of the UN, such as human rights activists or religious leaders. Through this, we are able to raise awareness within the small community of St Andrews and actively engage people with the UN’s goals and values.

UNA St Andrews was formed in late 2018 by students at the University of St Andrews and is open to all students, professors and other members of the public.

What we do

United Nations Association St Andrews (UNAStA) promotes the spread of awareness of the UN’s goals and values and aims to engage people with these values.

Every year, we organise activities for the public to partake in such as:

  • Roundtable talks

  • Seminars and Lectures

  • Pub Quizzes

  • Fundraising

Our society is primarily made up of three things:

We invite speakers to discuss current topics such as Brexit or climate change and organise careers talks for those who are interested in a career with the UN or related to the UN.

Events

We fundraise both for our society – as we require funds to invite speakers – and for external parties.

Fundraising

We link the UNA to members of the Scottish Parliament and identify current key issues that are being discussed and are relevant to one or more of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
